My daddy loved anything mechanical. He quit school in the 8th grade and enrolled in diesel mechanic school in Houston, TX. He loved motorcycles, rode an Indian Motorcycle as a young man, went into the Army Air Corp and became the youngest inspector for a time, and after WWII, went on to an aeronotics school in Oklahoma and became a pilot. He was one of Senator Lloyd Benson's executive pilots when the Senator worked for Lincoln Liberty Life Insurance. He worked as an aircraft mechanic for many years for Texas Internatinal Airlines (he loved to tell me the story of how he got to work on Arnold Palmer's Cessna, and then got to meet Arnie.), then went into business for himself, buying an 18-wheeler and leasing out to Hirshbach Motorlines. My daddy did so many wonderful things during his life. I never realized what an amazing man with an 8th grade education had accomplished, until I sat down to write this memorial! It's taken me 2 years to be able to add to this page. Many thanks to Bettie Hall Jordan for sponsoring my daddy's page, and giving me the courage to add to Daddy's memorial.
