Steve was my cousin, but I never got the chance to meet him. Steve's mother, my aunt, was adopted by Paul & Martha Hartzler. After I found out that I had cousins, I began calling Martha and asking about them, at first she only told me about the three boys that my aunt had from her first marriage, but then later told that there were two others from her second marriage. Steve was exactly one month older than I am. In April (2011), Steve would have been 50 years old, but his life was cut short when he went to visit his half-brother and sister in Lake City, TN. He was killed while in the car with someone who was drinking and driving and Steve was the only one in the car who was even hurt. They all walked away and Steve died.

Steve was affected by Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease which was passed from mother to son. The disease does not affect every member of a family but can. My mother was also affected, as my mother, and Steve's mother were sisters.

Steve was never married.

He leaves behind his father, Omer A. "Bud" Horton; his grandmother, Martha Hartzler; brothers, Sterling Horton, Stuart Horton and Kenny Collins; and one sister, Kelly Collins.
