Sylvester Sonny Alden, 65, of Shippenville, died at 2:40 p.m. Monday, December 30, 2002, in West Unit of UPMC Northwest, Franklin.
Born June 27, 1937, in Nickleville, he was the son of the late William and Flra Mays Alden.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Mr. Alden was a retired carpenter and had once worked for Joy Manufacturing.
He was a member of the NRA and enjoyed yard sales, hunting and outdoor activities, woodworking, making furniture and possessed a great sense of humor.
On September 5, 1970, he married Marie G. Exley, who survives.
Also surviving are a stepson, Robert E. Exley and wife, Beth of Brookville; two granddaughter, Rebecca Royer and her husband, Jeff, of Summerville and Alex Exley of Brookville; a grandson, Robert D. Exley and his wife, Jenna, of Brookville; and two great-granddaughters, Maddison and Izabella Royer of Summerville. He also survived by five sisters, Louise Franklin of Shippenville, Mary Miller and her husband, Cleon, of Knox, Rose Metts and her husband, Donly Jr., of Emlenton RD; Jennifer Wesner of Knox and Lu J. Bashline and her husband, Jim, of Knox RD; three brothers, Archie Alden of Reno, Harry Alden of Wingdale, N.Y., and Ralph Skip Alden of Knox, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Alden was preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn Effie Nickl, and an infant brother, Leonard.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today and from noon to 1 p.m. Friday in the David C. McEntire Funeral Home, Knox.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in the funeral home with the Rev. Chris Clark, pastor of the Chapel on the Hill Church near Emlenton, officiating.
Interment will follow in Pleasant Hills Cemetery, Shippenville.
