JoWane Whitney, 69, of North Las Vegas, passed away, surrounded by her loving family, April 1, 2009. She was born Feb. 15, 1940, in St. George, Utah, and was a 49-year resident of Nevada. JoWane grew up in St. George, where she was a beauty queen and sang in a double trio. She married Lewis Whitney in 1958. Her first child was the first baby born in 1960 in the state of Alaska, and she proudly bore six other children. JoWane was a compassionate, giving, loving person who put the needs of others before her own. She started her own business, Whitney Painting, which supported herself and her children for many years. She continued to sing to the delight of all who heard her. JoWane appreciated the importance of vitamins and became a vitamin encyclopedia. No matter how she felt, she always had a smile for everyone. JoWane was preceded in death by her baby, Dale; her brother, John; and her father, Eugene H. Gregerson. She is survived by six children, Shawn Eugene Whitney, Laurie Beth Olson, Troy Lewis Whitney, Jody Arthur Whitney, Jill Whitney and Devin Thomas Reed; and nine grandchildren. She is also survived by her mother, Elizabeth Gregerson; her brother, Larry Gregerson; and her sister, Charlene Reid. The funeral will be at noon Saturday, April 4, at the LDS Chapel, 100 E. Hammer Lane (between Commerce and 5th St.). Graveside interment will follow the funeral at Bunkers Memory Gardens, 7251 W. Lone Mountain Road.
