He was born May 4, 1911, in Wadsworth, to John R. and Elizabeth (Hall) Birkbeck. He married Adella Mae Humble on May 7, 1959, at Trinity Lutheran in Loyal Oak. She survives. Weldon owned and operated a farm on Leatherman Road for many years and was a welder with B&W in Barberton for nearly 40 years. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, playing golf, and bowling. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Wadsworth Hunt Club, and Boilermakers Union 900.
Weldon is survived by sons, James (Carol) of Wadsworth, Robert (Sylvia) of Simi Valley, Calif., John (Denise) of Massillon; daughter, Carol Jean (William) Gruhl of Lakewood, Colo.; 12 grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Marian (Miller); grandson, Edvin James Martinson; sisters, Ruth Kunkler, Martha Wertenberger; and brothers, Harold and Kenneth.
Services will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at the Roberts Funeral Home, with Rev. Dee Miklos officiating. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Wadsworth, Ohio. Friends may call TONIGHT from 6 to 8 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Wadsworth-Rittman or to Trinity Lutheran Church of Loyal Oak.
