Andrew Jackson McGruder was the son of Washington and Elizabeth Curry McGruder. Washington and Elizabeth were married 12 Jan 1837 in Hancock County, Indiana. Jackson was the eldest of their 8 children, 5 boys and 3 girls. Jackson was first married to Mary Ellen Curry in 1857. Mary and their son, George, died in 1859. In 1861, Jackson married Amelia Pierson Amick, widow of Alfred Amick. They had four children, Minerva (1863- Nov 1863) and Marshall, both who died in infancy, Ida Florence (1867-1933) and Frank P. (1872-1921). Between 1872 and 1880 Jackson and Amelia moved to Winfield, Kansas where Jackson became acquainted with Mrs. Maggie Connerly Sale. In 1883 Jackson and Maggie left their spouses and went to California, she taking her two daughters, Alta and Della, with them. In 1885 Maggie's husband, Pleasant Sale, divorced her in Cowley County, Kansas. Jackson and Maggie had a son, Oscar, born in 1886 in California. In 1896, Maggie married for the second time, to George Miller, younger brother of her son-in-law Wilmer and 14 years her junior. She died in Los Angeles in 1915. In 1900, Jackson was living at the Cherokee County, Kansas Poor Farm, Oscar was living in Sterling, Rice County Kansas, working as a hired boy, age 13. Amelia was living in Hancock County, Indiana with a son by her first marriage and was listed as widow McGruder. In 1906, she married Louis Parkinson. Ida Florence McGruder Johnson, daughter of Jackson and Amelia, lived in Sterling Rice County, Kansas, married to a dentist. Maggie's daughter Alta was married to Milton Gibson Miller and her daughter, Della was married to Wilmer Raymond Miller. They lived around Buena Park, California.
