John C. Allen was the son of John C. Allen Senior, who was born in Toormore, County Cork, Ireland.
"John was Superintendent of the Southern Electric Railway. He was one of the foremost street railway men in St. Louis. His whole business lie has been spent in the service. In 1879, when he was 20 years old, he drove a Broadway car. In 1883, he performed the same duties on the Southern Company's line. He was soon promoted to conductor, then owing to his efficiency, to roadmaster. In 1892, he was appointed Superintendent, and has made one of the most efficient officials in the service." At age 37, he left a wife, Annie M. Allen (nee Garvin), and two daughters, Lily, aged 13 years, and Mabel, aged 6 years. Annie Garvin went on to remarry twice.
John C. Allen, Superintendent of the Southern Electric Railway, died at his late residence, No 3552 Texas avenue. He leaves his wife and two children.
Services will be conducted by the Odd Fellows and Woodsmen, jointly. Mr. Allen was a prominent member of Excelsior Lodge, No 15, I.O.O.F., and one of the founders of Chopper Camp, No 318, Woodsmen of the World.
