F. J. Wilharm, 59, Claimed by Death Saturday Morning

Prominent Banker Here for Many Years Succumbs to Lingering Illness

F. J. Wilharm, 59, a prominent citizen of this community for many years, reached life's close at his home here Saturday morning. He had been in poor health for several years and toward the end of his strength diminished rapidly.

Mr. Wilharm, after completing his education, was identified most of his life with the Bank of Sumner, until August 31, 1931.

Frederick J. Wilharm was the son of the late Conrad Wilharm and Carolina Claus Wilharm, and was born, in Dayton Township, Bremer County, Iowa, October 2, 1875. On June 14 1876, he was baptized in the Lutheran Church in Maxfield by Pastor G. Hagemann.

He attended school and received instruction in the fundamental doctrine of Christian religon and was confirmed in the Lutheran faith at St. John's church at Buck Creek by the late Pastor W. Adix, April 14, 1889.

He attended Wartburg College at Waverly and was graduated from the commercial department in 1897. Shortly after graduation he wad offered employment in the Bank of Sumner as cashier. Here he spent his life's work. For many years he served St. John's congregation as treasurer.

October 16, 1898, he was untied in marriage with Minnie Adix. This union was of short duration for in the following year, July 27, 1899 she died.

October 17, 1901, he entered into marriage with Miss Martha Hoth. This union was blessed with three daughters, who today together with their mother, mourn the great loss of a dear father and husband.

During the last several years he had been ailing. His condition grew worse these last weeks, and he realized that the evening shadows of life were falling upon him. His age was 59 years, 6 months, and 4 days.

He leaves to mourn his death his bereaved widow, three children, Mrs. A. W. Swensen of Clinton, and Margaret and Alberta at home, two grandsons, Robert and Richard Swensen, two sisters, Mrs. Louise Krueger and Miss Mary Wilharm and one brother, Edward Wilharm all of this community, and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held from the family home Tuesday afternoon, Rev. C.J. Mardorf, pastor of the deceased, and George Krueger of Clinton, a nephew of the deceased, officiating. Interment was made in the family lot in Wilson Grove Cemetery. The pall bearers were Paul Claude and Leslie Wilharm, Dr. E. C. Claus, G. O. VanDerveer and W. H. Mooney.
