Edith R. Herdman
Edith R. Herdman, 77, of Derry died Friday, April 26, 2002, in Latrobe Area Hospital.
She was born Aug. 28, 1924, in South Fork, a daughter of the late Joseph M. and Martha (Plummer) Shomo.
Prior to retirement, she had worked for 15 years for the Latrobe Bulletin as a clerk for Kasperik Pharmacy and Mowry Lumber of Derry. During World War II, she was a stenographer for the Department of the Navy in Washington.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Elizabeth Comella; a brother, Edward "Ted" Shomo, and two nephews, Mark Comella and John Shomo.
She is survived by her husband, Charles C.; two sons, Joseph C. and his wife, Karen, Blairsville and Gary K. and his wife, Diana, Derry; five daughters, Cheryl E. Odom and husband, Les, New Mexico, Charlene R. Shankle and husband, Jim, Latrobe, Elizabeth K. Garcia and husband, Joe, Derry, Susan J. Guyer of Herminie and Marcia A. Smith and husband, Todd, Derry; also 14 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildreno; three step-grandchildren; three brothers, George and Charles of Ft. Wayne Ind., and Joseph of Florida, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral service was held Wednesday in Quinlisk Funeral Home, Derry, Rev. Ronald A. Brown officiating. Interment followed in Coles Cemetery, Derry Township.
