Retired Minister Dies At Byron Home Today (1936)
Byron, Ill., Oct. 13--The Rev. Allan W. hetrick, 92, Methodist minister for over 25 years, and Byron's last surviving civil ward veteran; died at 2:2 a.m. today at his home here. The Rev. Mr. Hetrick was born Aug 8, 1844, in Millerstown, Pa., the son of Jacob and Carolyn Hetrick. He came to Illinois in 1857. He was married to Marjorie B. Lowden of Newport, Pa., on June 13, 1867. They celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary on June 13 of this year.
The Rev. Mr. Hetrick entered the Methodist ministry in 1895. He had held charges at Kings, Compton, Creston, Chadwick, German Valley, Lighthouse, and Byron. his last appointment was at German Valley, where he was station during the world war.
He enlisted in company I of the 140th Illinois infantry at Dixon in April, 1864. He was dischared because of illness in October of the same year. During the war he was a member of the unit which followed Morgan's raiders. He was a member of G.L. Nevius post No. 1 of the Grand Army of the Republic, Ruckford.
The Rev. Mr. Hetrick is survived by his wife, an adopted son, Sam, two brothers, Adam of Gering, Neb. and Clarence of Alta, Ia., and three sisters, Miss Mary Hetrick, Mrs. Sarah Allen, and Mrs. Martha Mandeville, all of Winnebago. Two brothers, Benjamin and John, died during the civil war.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the gill funeral home. The sons of Veterans will act as pallbearers, and burial will be made in Byron cemetery.
