Francis Bacon Dies
Francis Bacon, one of the old time and highly respected citizens of the city of Georgetown passed away at his home Saturday night after an illness extending over a long period. Services for Mr. Bacon were held at Georgetown Tuesday morning at 11 o'clock.
Francis Bacon was born in the state of New York, February 5, 1832 his parents being members of the L.D.S. church, being among the first to embrace that faith. When six years of age Francis Bacon became acquainted with the Prophet Joseph Smith, in Nauvoo, Ill., and remembered this acquaintanceship all thru his life. He crossed the plains in 1862, walking and driving a yoke of oxen and was barefooted.
In 1860 he married Jane Loader in Pleasant Grove. She was a member of the handcart company in which he crossed the plains. His wife died four years later, leaving him with three small children.
In 1864 he married again to Elizabeth Simpson. He was the father of eleven children, six of whom are living and 39 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. He was one of the pioneers of Bear Lake county and resided here until his death,. Montpelier Examiner
