James, the son of James and Melissa Pruitt Melton, was born April 12, 1888 and departed this life May 23, 1970, at the age of 82 years and one month and eleven days.
He was united in marriage to Elzada Lutrell, Feb 11, 1917. To this union was one daughter, Sylvia Bilyeu, of the home.
Jim gave his life to Christ about 36 years ago, and lived a true christian until the end.
He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife and daughter of the home, one granddaughter and two great-granddaughters; 2 brothers, Floyd and Alpha of Rockaway Beach; one sister; Mabel Estep, Forsyth; also a host of nephews, nieces and friends.
Jim was a member of the New Haven Baptist Church and served as a deacon for several years.
Jim's favorite scripture in his testimony was "If you love not your brother whom you have seen, how can you love him whom you have not seen.
