~
Epworth, Ia., April 11-Special: The funeral of the late Sarah Edwards was held from the Methodist Church at 2 o’clock Wednesday afternoon, and interment was made in Highview Cemetery beside her husband who preceded her in death by a full generation. Mrs. Edwards was 96 years old. The services were in charge of the Methodist pastor, Rev. James Bird, and consisted of the singing of several favorite hymns of the deceased with a sermon and a brief eulogy of the life that is departed. The pallbearers were Harvey Hirons, George Dickinson, George Banton, John Hamilton, J. N. Maxwell and A. B. Alexander.

Surviving relatives, - - the - only surviving families, together with -, Rider, Briggs, Jackson and a few other families founded the town of Epworth and for many years the leading citizens of the community.

Mrs. Edwards was the last of her generation. All of her contempories preceded her in death by many years. Several even of the second generation passed away, and still this remarkable woman lived in apparent good health and in full possession of her faculties. Up until a few weeks before her death she showed little evidence of the ravages of time and it was of her great pleasure to tell of the early days in Iowa.

The deceased united with the Methodist Church at an early age and the church continued to be her great interest all through her life. She was a charter member of the M. E. Church in Epworth, which started with twelve members. She was very active in all church affairs, including the Aid and Missionary Societies.

Two children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Edwards; the older, a son, was the late well known James A. Edwards, who died ten years ago, and the younger, a daughter, Mrs. J. Millard, who is a resident of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. There are eleven grandchildren; six being members of the Edwards family and five of the Millard family. There are also thirteen great-grandchildren.

She died at Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin of Sunday morning, April 8, 1923, having reached the unusual age of ninety-six years, four months and fifteen days.
