Josiah Hitchcock was born on 29 Nov 1726, in Springfield, Hampden, MA. He was the fifth of nine children, and the third of seven sons. His parents were John Hitchcock and Abigail Stebbins, both were born and died in Springfield, Hampden, MA. On 01 Aug 1717 (sic) Josiah married his first cousin Martha Hitchcock, daughter of Luke Hitchcock and Martha Colton in Springfield, Hampden, MA. Luke Hitchcock was born in Wethersfield, Hartford, CT while Martha Colton was born in Longmeadow, Hampden, MA. Luke was buried in Granville, Hampden, MA with Martha Colton buried in Springfield, Hampden MA.
Josiah married 02 Dec 1802 the widow Lucy Ely of West Springfield, Hampden, MA. He died in Springfield, where he had always lived, 06 Jan 1819. His widow died 06 Mar 1826 ae 87.
