Samuel was the husband of Frances E (Ashworth) Ricketts

Samuel E. Ricketts, 94, of Ebensburg and formerly of Snow Shoe died Friday, Feb. 27, 2009, at 1:05 p.m. at Laurel Crest Manor, Ebensburg. Born March 21, 1914, at Janesville, he was a son of Samuel W. and Bertha (Delaney) Ricketts. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Philipsburg. He was a U. S. Army Air Force veteran of World War II, spending 42 months in France, Germany and Austria. Mr. Ricketts was a member of the Philipsburg American Legion John Ashely Dennis Jr. Post No. 437 and the Philipsburg Veterans of Foreign Wars Louis P. Jenkins Post No. 3450. He worked for 16 years with the U. S. Department of Agriculture as a soil and water conservationist. He was an agriculture teacher for seven years, teaching to veterans in Cambria County. After retiring, he obtained his real estate license and worked the Ed Reiter Agency, Philipsburg. Mr. Ricketts was a graduate of Reade Township High School and received his degree from The Pennsylvania State University. On April 25, 1943, at Osceola Mills, he wed Frances E. Ashworth, who died in 1998. He is survived by one daughter, Rebecca Bloom and her husband, William, of Ebensburg; a son, Gregory Alan Ricketts and his wife, Beverly, of Ebensburg; and three grandchildren, Joshua Ricketts and his fiancée, Natalie Lamarr, of Frederick, Md., Adam Bloom of Bakersfield, Calif., and Emily Bloom of Indiana. He is also survived by a sister, Mildred Smiley of Carolina Shores, N. C. In addition to his wife, Mr. Ricketts was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Dorothy D. Fowler and Kathryn Westick; and three brothers, John W., William C. and Robert V. Ricketts. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 7, at 1 p.m. at Beezer-Heath Funeral Home, Philipsburg, with the Rev. Brenda K. Leigey officiating. Interment will be at Beaver Valley Cemetery, Flinton. Friends will be received at the funeral home Saturday, March 7, from 11 a.m. until the hour of services. Military graveside honors will be accorded at the funeral home by members of the Moshannon Valley Independent Honor Guard.
