PENDLETON - Eloise Blankenship, 93, of Pendleton died Friday, March 21, 2009, in a local care facility. Viewing will be held from 2-6 p.m. Wednesday, March 25 at Burns Mortuary of Pendleton. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 26 at the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer in Pendleton. Burial will follow in Olney Cemetery in Pendleton.
Mrs. Blankenship was born April 5, 1915, in Ferguson, N.C., to Sanford and Dessie Burchette. She was raised and educated in Ferguson and graduated from Mount Pleasant High School in 1933. After graduation she went to work at the hosiery factory in North Wilkesboro, N.C.
She married Jesse Blankenship, her high school sweetheart, in 1936. In 1948 they moved to Oregon and lived in Pilot Rock for four years. They then moved to Pendleton, where she worked as a nurse's aid at St. Anthony Hospital and Pendleton Community Hospital. She later worked at the Vert Club Room, maintaining the kitchen for special events.
Mrs. Blankenship is survived by daughter Mary Kelly of Pendleton; four grandchildren; five great-grand children; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in her death by her husband and her parents.
Memorial contributions may be directed to a charity of choice.
