| Birth: | Mar. 7, Italy | | Death: | Dec., Italy | Roman Emperor. He was born in 189 AD, and was the younger son of the Emperor Septimius Severus. He had an intense rivalry with his brother Caracalla, and the two young men were taken on campaign to Britain by their father in an attempt to make them cooperate. Caracalla was given command of the army there while Geta held civil authority. Both brothers were then made co-rulers with their father, and became joint Emperors on his death in 211 AD. The two men disagreed on appointments and policy decisions, and in December 211 AD Caracalla ordered his brother's murder. After Caracalla's own fall from power Geta's body was interred in the Mausoleum of Hadrian and his memory became idealised as an innocent victim of fratricide. (bio by: js)
