Prominent Business Man Added to
Victims of Typhoid.
The deepest sorrow was cast over
the entire community today when it
became known that Charles Lacy
Sheldon Jr., eldest son of Mr. and
Mrs. Charles Lacy Sheldon, had
passed away during the early morn
ing at the home of his parents in
Genesee street, after a long and
brave struggle with the ravages of
typhoid. Gifted with a physique and
constitution far beyond the ordinary
mortal, Mr. Sheldon was able to
withstand the inroads of the disease
to an unusual degree, but despite
this and all the skill of the medical
profession - which was placed at his
disposal, the young man gradually
gave way until this morning at 1:30
o'clock the end came.
Charles Lacy Sheldon Jr. was born
in this city on April 27, 1878, and
therefore had just passed the thir
tieth anniversary of his birth. Mr.
Sheldon was graduated from Auburn
High school in June, 1886, with hon
ors; from Cascadilla school, Ithaca,
in June of the following year; and

a mlmlber of Psi Upsilon fraternity
and has since been prominently
identified with fraternty affairs.

married Miss Mary Romig, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Romig of this
City the yohng wife preceding her
husband to the grave by only a few
mohths. She passed away in Novem
ber of last year. A peculiar coin
cidence of the union of the promi
nent young people was that they were
born In the same year, the same day
and the same month.
Since leaving college Mr. Sheldon
has been the proprietor of a book
store and the manager of Sheldon
Court at Ithaca, and by his genial
manner and kindly disposition to
ward all those with whom he came
in contact had built up a very suc
cessful business. In Ithaca he num
bered his friends by his acquaintances
and his demise will cause as much
sorrow In the University town as in
his home city. Mr. Sheldon was a
man of high moral character and
possessing a love for all humanity
that endeared him to all those, who
knew him. The heartfelt sympathy
of the public will go out to his fam
ily in their bereavement.
He is survived by his father and
mother, one brother, Dr. William
Hills Sheldon of New York, and by
one sister, Miss Mary Sheldon of this
city. The funeral will be held at
