Kinch West started as a Confederate soldier, expanding into leading his own guerilla command and doing much damage in Dade and surrounding counties during the Civil War. He may have been among the large number of men recruited by Quantrill for the raid on Lawrence, KS. After the war Kinch was involved in crime in western Arkansas, and then moved to Hill County Texas where he continued his outlaw ways. After killing a man over a horse(he was acquitted by reason of self-defense after being brought to trial some 17 years later), Kinch headed north into Kansas and the Indian Territory where he continued to be a primary concern for law enforcement. He was sentenced to four years in the federal prison in Detroit, afterwards coming back to Indian Territory and living more peacably than before, although not entirely virtously. Despite being noted at one time for having 47 notches on his pistol, Kinch died in bed of natural causes.

Gravesite Details

Kinch West has no headstone, and it's not certain what space is his, although presumably he is next to his wife.
