Maren Christensen Goldbeck was born in Dollerup, Denmark, March 27, 1856, where she as an infant was baptized into the Christian church. April 6, 1874, she was united in marriage to Jens Peter Goldbeck. They settled on a farm three miles south of Ruskin in August, 1884, and this has since been her home with the exception of short intervals which she spent with her children in their homes. She's been in failing health for the last few years and passed away February 21, 1936, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Tora Laursen, at the age of 79 years, 10 months, 24 days.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1917; also five children. She leaves to mourn her passing: three daughters, Mrs. Mary Hansen, Mrs. Cora Petersen and Mrs. Tora Laursen all of Ruskin community; five sons, Chris of Ruskin, Andrew and Marius of Blair, Anton of Selma, California, and William of Trufant, Michigan. Also twenty-one grand children, one great grand child, and one half-sister in Denmark. She will be remembered as one who was always ready to help in time of need, and found great comfort in her contact with the Bethany Lutheran Church south of Ruskin.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, with interment in the Ruskin cemetery.
