Mrs. McClure was born July 7, 1918, in Cantril, Iowa, to Clarence Clayton and Ora Ethel Barngrover Glass. She married W. Oscar McClure in Jefferson City on Oct. 26, 1938.
Before Mrs. McClure retired, she worked in the MU Department of English for 20 years. She was a member of the Memorial Baptist Church and American Business Women?s Association. She also participated in the Older American Klub .
Her daughter, Jane Jeffries, said that before moving to Columbia, Mrs. McClure worked several years during the ?50s in the business and administration office at Westminster College, and after moving to Columbia, briefly worked at Stephens College before accepting a position at MU. Jeffries also said her mother was active in the Fairview Community Extension Club and was a member of Unity Baptist Church before moving to Columbia.
She and my dad farmed in Callaway County for about 10 years, on a multi-purpose farm. She did a lot of gardening and canning. One year we put up 200 quarts of green beans, said Jeffries.
She is survived by two children, James E. McClure and Jane Jeffries, both of Columbia; a brother, Charles W. Glass of Springfield; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Her husband, three brothers and two sisters died earlier.
Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Memorial Funeral Home, 1217 Business Loop 70 W. Services, conducted by the Rev. LeRoy Dickinson, will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
