SENECA--Rose A. Holthaus, 101, Seneca, died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2000, at a Seneca nursing home.
Mrs. Holthaus and her husband farmed southeast of Baileyville for 40 years before they retired in 1958.
She was born Jan. 20, 1898, on a farm west of Seneca, the daugher of Joseph and Mary Rethman Olberding. She attended Sts. Peter and Pal School in Seneca. She moved to Baileyville in 1958 and she had lived in Seneca since October, 1996.
Mrs. Holthaus was a member of Sacred Heart Church and the altar society at the church. She also was a member of the Benedictine Oblates of Mt. St. Scholastica, a life member in the Society of the Little Flower and the Rosary Makers Club, all in Baileyville.
She married Francis B. Holthaus on April 17 1917, in Seneca. He preceded her in death Jan. 1, 1978.
Survivors include three sons: George and Edwin, both in Seneca and Leo, Lincoln, Neb.; three daughters, Rita Strathman, Baileyville, Sister Sharon Holthaus, Atchison, and Vivina Strathman, Axtell; a sister, Agnes Sweetland, Seneca, 47 grandchildren; 180 great-grandchildren; and 75 great-great grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a. m. Thursdy at Sacred Heart Church in Baileyville. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
