Anna Emma Kugler was the last child and 4th daughter born to Pauline (Klenk) and Karl Kugler. She was born at home on July 7, 1907, in Maple River Twp, (Emmet County) Michigan. She left the farm during high school and moved to Pontiac and lived with her sister Marie (Kugler) Gix and her family on the Ward farm. She graduated from Pontiac High School in 1925.
Ann attended Ferris Institute in Big Rapids, Michigan, for one year and graduated with a secretarial diploma. Ann began working at GMC Truck & Coach in Pontiac, Michigan, in the Engineering Specifications Department as a secretary.
During the 1933 Worlds Fair in Chicago, Ann was on the way to the fair on the train when she was chosen as a replacement to represent General Motors as Miss GMC.
On May 27, 1939 Ann married Gerald (Jack) Berlien. They went to Angola, Indiana, over Memorial Day weekend. Ann and Jack had no children.
Ann died from a heart attack on October 8, 1996, at St. Joseph Hospital in Pontiac, Michigan. She is buried next to her husband, Jack, at White Chapel Cemetery in Troy, (Oakland County) Michigan.
