At 3 AM on March 26, a fast-moving and deadly fire swept thru the all-wood three-story San Antonio Country Club House, burning it to the ground. Killed were six persons; five guests and one employee. Mr. Jones, seeing Mrs Maco Stewart re-enter the burning bulding, went into the building in an attempt to get her out. He was not successful, and they both perished.
Homer Jones was the Vice President of Stewart Tilte, the company owned by Mrs. Stewart's husband. He was the son of John Calhoun and Susan (Kennedy) Jones, and unmarried.
The other guests who perished were Judge James E. Webb and couple James D. and Mary Walthall. Mrs. Ellen Cockrell was the employee who perished.
