MONMOUTH
M.S. "Dick" Eakin, 80, of Monmouth, died Wednesday. He was born in Summit. He worked for the Rex Clemens Logging Company until his retirement in 1973. Survivors include his wife, Mary; son, Merle, Sutherlin; daughter, Melva Hink, Idleyld Park in Douglas County; stepsons Wes, Kenneth, and Don Burbank, all of Monmouth; stepdaughters Alberta Jones, Monmouth, and Twila Ware, Lake Oswego. Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday in the Pedee Memorial Evangelical Church. Interment will be in Womer Cemetery, Pedee. Arrangements are by Bollman Mortuary, Dallas.

EAKIN
Melvin S. "Dick" Eakin, 80, Monmouth, died in a Corvallis hospital on June 3. He was born in Summit, Oregon, April 5, 1907. He lived in Philomath and the Alsea area where he worked for the Rex Clemens Logging Co., for 37 years.
He was preceded in death by a son Marvin, and his wife, Sarah, in 1947. He moved to the Pedee area where he married Mary Beth Burbank on August 21, 1954. They have lived in the Pedee area since and Dick retired from logging in 1973.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Eakin; a son, Merle Eakin of Sutherland; a daughter Melva Hink of Idleyld Park, Oregon; stepsons, Wes, Kenneth and Don Burbank of Monmouth; step-daughters, Alberta Jones, Monmouth, and Twila Ware of Lake Oswego; 25 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Services were June 6, 1987, in the Pedee Memorial Evangelical Church, Rev. Robert Trosen officiating. Interment followed in the Womer Cemetery, Pedee. Bollman Funeral Home, Dallas, was in charge of arrangements.

*Mary Goldie Burbank's first husband was Alfred Asa Burbank. Mary Goldie married Alfred Asa on December 19 1927 in Benton County Oregon. Alfred Asa was a brother to Sarah May Burbank, who was Melvin Sylvester Eakin's first wife. Alfred Asa died in 1950. Sarah died in 1948. Melvin Sylvester Eakin then married Mary Goldie Burbank in 1954.
