He was born December 15, 1922, north of St. Benedict, KS the son of August and Theresa (Menke) Haverkamp. He attended schools in St. Benedict and Baileyville. He graduated from Baileyville High School in 1940. He was a farmer and worked for the Kansas Dept. of Transportation.
He later worked for the Nemaha County and the federal Agricultural Stabilization Conservation Service, building terraces and waterways in the county. He was a farmer and stockman many years and lived north of Corning from 1968 until 1985 when he moved into Seneca.
He was a former member of St. Bede's Catholic Church in Kelly and Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Seneca. He was a member of Council No. 1769 of the Knights of Columbus in Seneca.
He married Mildred Ann Wiltz at Sacred Heart Church in Sabetha, KS. She died of cancer on May 20, 1972.
Survivors include sons, Alan Haverkamp, Auburn, KS; Lynn Haverkamp, Meriden, KS; Ralph Haverkamp, Topeka, KS; Karel Haverkamp, Topeka, KS; Roy Haverkamp, Manteca, CA; Roger Haverkamp, Rockland, CA; sisters, Loretta Otting, Seneca, KS; Luella Haverkamp, Seneca, KS; Alma Clark, Kansas City; Marcella Haug, Baileyville, KS; Cecilia Forst, Ft. Lauderdale, FL; and eight grandchildren.
Besides his wife and his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Rose Koelzer on November 24, 1996.
Mass of Christian Burial was at St. Bede's Catholic Church, Kelly, KS. Burial was in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Baileyville, KS.
