From an undated and unknown newspaper clipping submitted by Rexann Mallory, 25 Jun 1994, (now deceased): 'Mrs. W. G. Baird, an old resident of the Jennings community died Tuesday morning at 6:20 at her home in Jennings, where she had lived thirty-nine years. She came to Lamar County with her husband, the late W. C. Baird and family from Limestone County, Ala. in 1886.
She was a life long member of the Methodist church, her membership being at Shady Grove. If she had lived till February she would have been 85 years old. She was loved by all who knew her and was lovingly called Grandma Baird.
She is survived by six children: Mrs. George Porter of Milton, Mrs. Fannie Porter of Jennings, John Baird of Chillicothe, Mrs. Sam Penson, Mrs. Will Stamper and Walter Baird of Paris.
The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon at Shady Grove church.' [Transcribed exacted as written in newspaper: Baird was spelled as Biard in heading but was spelled Baird in paragraphs.]
*From Rexann Mallory, 11 Sep 1994: born in TN, married by Justice of the Peace, A.R. Crawford, to Elizabeth 'Betty' Wales on 25 Jul 1860 in Athens, Limestone Co., AL. *Tombstone is inscribed 'W.C. Baird.' The tombstones next to him are his grandchildren. Masonic symbol on tombstone.
Can anyone complete her dates. I found this in the Death and Cemetery Records of Lamar County. I would love to post her dates.
