HUNTINGDON JOURNAL of 30 Mar 1899 reads: "Madison Borst died at his home in Petersburg yesterday morning of heart failure. Mr. Borst had not been well for some time, last week he had a sinking spell in Swoope's hardware store and had to be assisted home by friends but had apparently recovered feeling much better the few days preceding his death. Universal sorrow is expressed in the death of Madison Borst. He was one of those whole souled good hearted men who we occasionally find in a community. His latch string was always out and a hearty welcome awaited you, bruske in his manner, he had a good jolly disposition that made him friends. He was just as emphatic in his declaration, if he liked a man he would do any thing for him in his power, the same characteristics were in his dislikes. He was a child of natures, he loved the woods, the rippling stream and in a hunter's cabin was the soul of the party. Many will drop a tear when they hear of the death of Madison Borst. He was a soldier in the civil war, a member of Co. C, 149th P.V., and wounded at the battle of the Wilderness. In politics he was a Democrat, but was always for his friends. He was 60 years, 1 month and 7 days old. He is survived by his wife and the following step children: Edward Armstrong, of Kane; August Armstrong and Mrs. Theodore Shultz, of Renovo; Mrs. George Sharrah and Mrs. J. R. Norris, of Huntingdon; and the following brother and sisters: Jacob, of Porter township; Wilson, of Logan township; George of Pennsylvania Furnace; Mrs. Margaret Myers, of Gatesburg, Pa., and Mrs. Mary Megahan, of Logan township. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 2 p.m., and interment in Petersburg cemetery."
