DEATH OCCURS THIS MORNING AT HOME ON SOUTH JEFFERSON STREET
John Smith Whitaker life long, resident of Morgan County, died at seven O'clock this morning following an illness of serval weeks at his home 189 South Jefferson street.
Mr Whitaker was born in this County: the son of David and Mary Jane Whitaker, and been a resident of Martinsville since 1910. He was married November 14 1882 to Amanda Alice Voshell and engaged in farming during the early years of his life.
Hr served as county auditor from 1898 to 1902 and from 1910 to 1914, and also served a term as county treasurer. He enrolled in Indiana University for a year in 1878 being a member of Sigma Chi fraternity at the university
For a Number of years he was associated with the Citizens and First National of this city. He was a member of the Samaira Baptist church.
Mr. Whitaker leaves the wife two daughters. Mrs. Victor Duncan and Mrs. Bertha May of this county, three grandchildren, Mrs Arthur Shireman of Washington D. C., Miss Betty May, of this city, and Robert Duncan of Cincinnati, and a sister Malinda Reynolds of Eminence. Funeral services will be held at two o'clock Thursday afternoon in the Wilhite Chapel, followed by burial in Greenlawn cemetery.
Friends may call at the Wilhite funeral home any time after 7:00 Tuesday evening.
