After a long and tedious illness Mr. Thos. Burke, died at his residence Nov. 20th, aggravated asthma was the cause of death. Thomas Burke was born in Lusbury, May Co., Ireland in 1829; he left Ireland in 1853 going to England leaving there in 1854 coming to America, there he followed boating for a time, having numerous adventures during the war of '61-65'; he married Miss Hannah Moran the fruits of this union were Mark, Thomas, Katherine and Anna, nee Mitchell, who all mourn a father's loss.
He and his faithful wife, came to Illinois sometime ago, where Mr. Burke assumed the avocation of a successful farmer. He had a genial, sunny temperament, was everyone's friend and when the dark winged specter, whose name is Death, came to the frail tenement of his noble soul. Sorrowing friends gathered around testifying the esteem in which they held the dying man.
The funeral was held Friday, Nov. 22nd, at St. Paul's church in Odell. Rev. Father Griffy officiating, the remains were then placed in the Catholic Cemetery, the casket was born to the grave by six of Mr. Burke's loved friends viz: Messie, Doherty, Leach, Corrigan, McCormack, Kiekiey, and O'Neil. Those of the relatives from abroad were Mary(should have been Mark) Burke of Julesburg, Col., Mr. and Mrs. George Mitchell, of Bloomington, Mr Frank Moran of Fairbury, Mr Walter and Misses Julia and Grace O'Malley of Dwight.
