Rufus S. Tweed

Rufus Spencer Tweed, 79, of 10 Mulberry St., died at 10:30 a.m. Monday in an Asheville hospital following a long illness.

He was a native of Madison County and made his home in Wheelwright, KY., where he was affiliated with the Inland Steel Co. 45 years at the time of his retirement in 1945.

Services for Mr. Tweed will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in Richland Baptist Church. The Rev. J.R. Dawkins, the Rev. John Green and the Rev. Harry Dicus will officiate. Burial will be in West Memorial Park, Weaverville.

Pallbearers will be Raymond Buckner, Paul Edwards, Arnold Hamlin, Frank Honeycutt, Conley Hamlin and Clyde Young.

Honorary pallbearers will be O.M. Henderson, Bill Clark Chester Honeycutt, Roy Ellis Jr., Ronald Rhodes, Bryan Rhodes and Kelly Rice.

The body will remain at Anders-Rice Funeral Home until taken to the church to lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service.

Mr. Tweed had been residing in Buncombe County since 1945. He was a member of the United Mine Workers Union. He was a member of Victory Baptist Church.

Surviving are three sons, Chester Tweed of Detroit, Mich., Arlen Tweed of Hilliah, Fla., and Major Tweed of the home; four daughters, Mrs. Roxie Maggio of Tampa, Fla., Mrs. Margaret Saylor of Chicago, Ill., Mrs. Maxie Reed of Cincinnati, Ohio and Mrs. Ersley Messer, also of Detroit; one sister, Mrs. Chassie Nash of Hendersonville; one brother, Boyd Tweed of Cumberland, Ky.
