Son of Isaac Jayne and Mary Jones
Husband of Abigail WheelerDuring the years prior to the Revolution when colonists were growing desperate under the exactions of King George, patriotism and valor were manifested to a marked degree in Goshen Township, Orange County, New York and on June 8, 1775, over 360 men signed the Revolutionary Pledge at Goshen. Henry Jayne was one of the signers. In the mid 1770s Henry was working in Goshen for the Sterling Ironworks Factory making guns and cannon for the American Army. During the war, this factory made the famous Chain that was put into the Hudson River to protect West Point. As a result Henry was listed as exempt from the Loyalty Pledge on 8 Jun 1775.

Abigail's father, James Wheeler and his family, migrated to Washington County, VA (this area is now Smyth county) about 1774, and Henry and Abigail, with their first children, followed them about 1783.

Henry Jayne moved from Orange County, New York after the close of the war to Washington County, Va.,and settled on the Middle Fork of the Holston River. After coming to Virginia, Henry Jayne became a land owner -- obtained by grant and purchase. October 18, 1793 a survey of fifty acres of land by virtue of a Virginia Land Office Treas. Warrant No. 8703 was made for Henry "Jeans"---- Land lying on the North side of the Middle Fork of the Holston River adjoining said Jeans land.

March 16, 1795 Roland McReynolds and Agnes his wife of Washington, County, VA conveyed 100 acres lying on the middle fork of the Holston River adjoining Philip Davis land to Henry Jayne for one hundred pounds. June 15, 1815 James Cole conveyed 170 acres lying in Washington County on the North side of the South Fork of the Holston River, adjoining Sampson Cole and Jonathan Dean, to Henry Jayne for $1100.00. --- March 1, 1816 Henry Jayne and Abigail his wife of Washington County, sold all the land lying on the Middle Fork of Holston River --- 150 acres, corner of Philip Davis land.

Available evidence indicates that Henry Jayne was living on South Fork of the Holston River at the time of his death in 1828. Henry Jayne left a very descriptive Last Will and Testament dated May 30, 1822 and proved February 19, 1828. The will was prepared before the death of his wife, Abigail, in 1824, but after the death of his son, Henry Jayne in 1822.
