The Daily Notes, Canonsburg PA, Tuesday 23 July 1940, page 2 - WILLIAM J. BOYCE, 78, well-known citizen of Lawrence, died at 6:10 o'clock Monday evening, July 22, in his home. He had been seriously ill for the last 12 weeks. Mr. Boyce, a son of the late CAPTAIN WILLIAM and MARY GIFFIN BOYCE, was born November 11, 1861, at Boyce Station. He was the last survivor of a family of 11 children. He was a life-long resident of that section and was a well-known carpenter. Mr. Boyce was a member of the Fawcett Methodist Church for over 50 years. His wife, the former ELLA JANE MOORE, died in 1935. Surviving are two children, MRS. WILMA B. YECKEL, at home and D. MOORE BOYCE, of Canonsburg, R. D. 2, at Donaldson's Crossroads; seven grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 2, at 3 o'clock, eastern standard time, in the home, in charge of the Rev. H. M. Jenkins, of Bridgeville. Burial will be in the Peters Creek Cemetery, McMurray. Friends will be received at the home until time for the services.

The Daily Notes, Canonsburg PA, Thursday 25 July 1940, page3 - Boyce Services - Funeral services for WILLIAM JOHN BOYCE who died Monday at his home in Lawrence were held from the late home yesterday afternoon. The Rev. H. M Jenkins of Bridgeville was in charge, assisted by the Rev. Homer N. Clark of Sewickley, the Rev. James Pollock of Pittsburgh, the Rev. H. Ross Hume of Canonsburg, and the Rev. Wallace Irwin. A quartet composed of Mr. and Mrs. James Moore and Mrs. And Mrs. Robert Moore sang "The Lord is My Shepherd," accompanied by Mrs. Robert Kelso. Pall bearers were Boyce Ross, Ross Boyce, and James D., John B., Robert and Ralph Moore. Burial was in the Peters Creek Cemetery. There were many friends and relatives in attendance and flowers in profusion.
