Martha Whitney, living four miles west of Adel, died very suddenly of heart failure June 30th.
She was born March 25, 1829, married to Lewis Harrison July 25th 1845. To this union were born eleven children, nine of whom are living. She with her husband, moved to Dallas County, Iowa, in 1854. Mr Harrison died May 5, 1877. She was again married to Alden Whitney Aug 1879, who still survives her. The survining children are Mrs. S. E. Bilderback of Shannon City, Iowa, Mrs. Emma J. Benson of Earlham, Ia., Mrs. Mary V. Young, COffeyville, Kansas, Mrs. Minerva Overton, Estelline, SD., C. D. Harrison, Linden, Iowa, W. M. Harrison, La Grande, OR, William W. Harrison, Coffeyville, KS, I. W. Harrison, Des Moines, IA, F. S. Harrison, Des Moines, IA. The three step children are Mrs. Archie Merriman of Adel, Madison and Harry Whitney of Adams township. She was converted in childhood and has always lived a true christian life. She was a member of the United Brethren Church of South Coon. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her especially by the young people and children.
