Mrs. Elizabeth Teitgen, 72, wife of Emil Teitgen, retired banker and merchant,
died Tuesday afternoon at the couple’s apartment in the William Penn Hotel,
Los Angeles. The Teitgens left Manitowoc December 1 to spend the winter in
California.
Mrs. Teitgen was not in the best of health when she left for the west into last
year. She spent Christmas eve at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. V. Allen in
Los Angeles, but had been confined to the apartment since. She was taken ill
with the flu during the holiday season.
The body is to be returned to Manitowoc for burial. Funeral services will be
held
from the Teitgen home, 702 Marshall street, at a date to be announced later. Mr.
Teitgen and his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Allen, are accompanying
the
body to Manitowoc.
Mrs. Teitgen, who before her marriage was Elizabeth Rhode, was born in Two
Rivers
in 1866, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Rhode. Her parents later moved to
this city.
She was married here in 1886 to Emil Teitgen, South Eighth street hardware
merchant
and for many years president of the First National bank. Mrs. Teitgen took a
deep
interest in charitable work and was an active member of the South Side Ladies
Aid
society. She was also a member of the Eastern Star.
Since Mr. Teitgen retired from active business in 1920 he and Mrs. Teitgen have
been spending their winters in California.
In January, 1936, Mr. and Mrs. Teitgen observed their golden wedding anniversary
at the home of their daughter, Mrs. Allen, in Los Angeles.
