August Cahl was the son of Gottfried Cahl and Wilhelmine Murawski.

He married Caroline Woiczechowski on 13 Oct 1878 at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Gross Bellschwitz, West Preussen, Germany (now Baloszyce, Ilawa, Warminsko-Mazurskie, Poland).

On 17 Apr 1885, he arrived in Baltimore, MD aboard the Ship "Neurnberg" with his wife and two minor children.

August died at his home in Amherst, OH and was buried 1 Dec 1930.
