Governor of Connecticut. A professor and college president for 34 years, he served as lieutenant governor under Gov. Raymond Baldwin from 1939 to 1941. He was elected governor in 1946 and had served for a little more than one year when died unexpectedly of a blood clot in the heart during a hospital stay for intestinal influenza.
