Funeral services for Mrs. Joyce Ann Miller, 29, will be held March 2, 1962 at the Stensel Funeral Home with burial in Maple Grove cemetery. Mrs. Miller died February 26 in Miami, Florida following a shooting in the family home. She was killed by her husband, Robert, 50, who then took his own life. The tragic events stemmed from a marital dispute between the Millers that came to a climax when Mrs. Miller attempted to move out of their home.
The couple had observed their first wedding anniversary only twelve days before. Mrs. Miller was reportedly seeking a separation from her husband and had been staying with friends the previous two days. A neighbor was accompanying her to her home to remove her clothes when she was shot. Miller shot himself shortly after the woman left the room. Mrs. Miller's two sons by a former marriage were staying with her parents in Lake Worth, Florida at the time of the shooting.
She was born near Farmer City on December 20, 1932 the d/o Carl and Ida Curtis Bennett. She is survived by her two sons: Curtis and Steve Levandowski; her parents; three sisters: Elizabeth Grimes, Farmer City; Loraine Green, Harvard; and Doris Gilmore, Arrowsmith. She is a niece of Roger Curtis, Farmer City.
Casket bearers were John Curtis, Robert Howe, Carl Grimes, Russell Howland, Kenneth Curtis and Dave Swartz.
