Richard Carnochan was the son of John Carnochan and Mary Murray, the youngest of six children. His brother William (b. 1774, d. 1825) operated a sugar mill and rum distillery at Darien, Georgia, called "The Thicket." Sisters Mary (b. 1777) and Rachel (b. 1780), remained, unmarried, in Scotland. His brother John (b. 1779, d. 1841) resided in Savannah, GA, then Florida. He is buried in St. Michael's Cemetery in Pensacola, FL. His sister Jane (b. c. 1782, d. 1850) married William McMaster in Savannah, GA. She and her husband later moved to Charleston, where they both died and are also buried in First Scots. Jane's grave marker has not been found.
