RETIRED MINISTER DIES AT AGE OF 88
Rev. Charles Hollopeter, who made Home in Auburn for the Past Two Years Passes Away at Home of Daughter
Rev. Charles M. Hollopeter, 88, a retired Methodist minister and a resident of Auburn for the past two years, died at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the home of his daughter, Mrs. Ford L. Warner of eight miles south of Auburn.
His death resulted from senility and complications. He had been bedfast for seven days preceding his death. He had roomed for two years at 109 West Fourth street, Auburn. Seven days ago, he was taken to the home of his daughter.
Rev. Hollopeter was a Methodist minister for 35 years. He held pastorates at Ossian, Monroeville, Roanoke, Sharpsville, New Albany and at churches in several other Indiana communities. He retired 20 years ago.
Before entering the ministry, he taught school for seven terms. His last teaching assignment was in the schools at Leo. He studied for the ministry at the former Methodist church school at Fort Wayne.
A native of Allen county, he was born Oct. 4, 1861, the son of the late Capt. and Mrs. W. C. Hollopeter. He married Nellie Daniels June 16, 1892, at Huntington. She preceded him in death over 25 years ago. On Oct 1, 1925 he married Mrs. Nettie Van Tilburry. She died in 1945. The couple was living at Warsaw at the time of her death. A few years later, he moved to Auburn.
Surviving besides the daughter, are a son, W. D. Hollopeter of Oak Park, Ill.; eight grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. Belle Fitch of Huntertown and Mrs. Grace Rundles of Hudson. He was one of eight children.
The body was removed to the Gerig funeral home in Auburn for burial preparations and will remain for short funeral services at 1:15 p.m. Wednesday. Immediately after the services in Auburn, the body will be removed to the Methodist church at Leo for services at 2 p.m. Rev. C. C. Collins, pastor of the Methodist church in Auburn, will officate at the services in Auburn and at the church rites. Burial will be in Leo Cemetery.
