Chris Finnegan

Professional Boxer, Olympic Athlete. Born in Buckinghamshire, England, he represented his country at the 1968 Summer Olympic Games in Mexico City and won a gold medal in the Middleweight Division when he defeated Aleksey Kiselyov of the Soviet Union. After turning professional, Finnegan would capture both the European and British light heavyweight titles. His most memorable fight was a 14 round knockout loss to Light Heavyweight Champion Bob Foster in September 1972. Their title match was named "Fight of the Year" for 1972 by Ring Magazine. He retired from boxing in 1975 after compiling a record of 29 wins (16 knockouts), 7 losses and 1 draw in 37 fights. His younger brother Kevin Finnegan (1948-2008) was a boxer and former European and British Middleweight Champion. (bio by: C.S.)
