Freddie "Dave" Givens, 61, died Sept. 20 at the Anchorage Kidney Center. Services were held at the Greater Friendship Baptist Church, with the Rev. John Smith officiating. A visitation was held for one hour prior to the service.
Born March 20, 1927, in Saint Francisville, La., he had lived in Alaska for the past 19 years where he worked in maintenance for the Municipality of Anchorage. He was a member of Local 341 Construction Workers Union, and was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman.
Mr. Givens is survived by his wife, Sedonia, of Anchorage, two daughters, Wanda Handy of Anchorage and Ruby Mae Givens of St. Francisville; a son, Earnest Givens of Anchorage; three brothers, Eugene and James Givens of St. Francisville, and Lawerson Givens of New Orleans; five sisters, Sarah Pettis and Gevena Ivory of New Orleans, Mildred Carter of Chicago, Violet London of Los Angeles, and Margarite Clayton of Baltimore. Burial was at the Anchorage Memorial Park Cemetery following services. Pallbearers included Joseph Carter, Raymond Gillespie, Corona Marshalle, Poinell Lockhart, Echols Lenzia, Andrew Liverman and Warren Smallwood. Memorials may be sent to the American Diabetes Association, 201 E. 3rd Ave., Suite 301, Anchorage, 99501. Arrangements are by Evergreen Memorial Chapel.
