BELFAST - Louise I. Payson, 95, a long time resident of Belfast, died March 30, 2005. She was born Jan. 12, 1910, in Thorndike, the daughter of James and Florence Cates. She was the wife of the late Erlon James "Bud" Payson, who passed away in 1976, and sister to the late Herman Cates.

Louise was a beloved mother of 11 children, Darrell and Ann Payson of Littleton, Mass., Jimmy Payson (deceased), Burton and Fran Payson of Dedham, Carold and Peggy Payson of Yarmouth, Lauren and Minnie Payson of Belfast, Delma and Raymond Paul of Belfast, Janice and Melvin Shute of Stockton Springs, Sharon and Daniel Perry of Ghent, N.Y., Maureen Larrabee of Chelmsford, Mass., Cherylene and Paul Labbe of Topsham, and Cheryle and John Larrabee of Davidson, N.C. She was a loving grandmother to 25; great-grandmother to 47; and great-great-grandmother to one.

Louise taught school for six years prior to her marriage. She taught school in Morrill for the kindergarten class and was a teaching assistant in the Reading Program at the Anderson School in Belfast. She was a Deputy Sheriff and a hospital aide at Waldo County General Hospital. Louise was a member of the Belfast Public Health Nursing Committee, the Belfast Garden Club, the Booster Club at Crosby High School and the PTA. She was a Republican Ballot Clerk and a lifetime member of the Eastern Star. She belonged to the Waldo County Retired Teacher's Association and the Waldo County Law Enforcement Organization.

A celebration of life will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, April 2, 2005, at the First Baptist Church of Belfast. Interment will be held later in the spring at the Paul Cemetery, Waldo.
