Eva Ruth Hilton Dugger
Eva Ruth Hilton Dugger, 82, of 830 Hamilton Street, Johnson City, entered into her heavenly rest on Monday (Sept. 1, 2008) at Johnson City Medical Center Hospital following a brief illness.
A native of Hawkins County, Tenn., she was a daughter of the late Nat D. and Lula Smith Hilton. After she met the love of her life, Beryl C. Dugger, they settled in Johnson City were they raised their seven children.
Mrs. Dugger had been a long-time member of the Johnson City Church of God and was a charter member of Maranatha Tabernacle, Unicoi.
Ruth's passion in life was God, faith and family. That passion was made evident when her children formed a gospel singing group, The Singing Dugger Family, in 1972. While traveling around the country with the family's ministry, she witnessed many people give their hearts to the Lord and made lasting friendships along the way.
She enjoyed gardening, quilting, canning, cooking, day trips, and visiting with family and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Beryl C. Dugger in 1997; six sisters, Lillie Crawford, Ora Crawford, Allie Roberts, Pearl England, Maxie Hilton and Lizzie Hilton; one brother, Jack Hilton; one granddaughter, Jennifer Long; and four great-grandchildren.
Survivors include two daughters, Wilma Erlene White and Queenie A. Wheeler and husband, E.L, all of Erwin, Tenn.; five sons, Denver A. Dugger, Johnson City, Alfred B. Dugger, and wife Wilma, Johnson City, Larry G. Dugger, and wife Kim, of Erwin, David W. Dugger, and wife Kathy, Greeneville, Mark S. Dugger, and wife Sophia, Johnson City; one sister, Stella Osborne, Gray; three sisters-in-law, Velma Hilton, Lillie Rogers, Gray and Gladys Dunn, Bristol; brother-in-law, Crawford Rogers; 20 grandchildren, Rocky Saylor, Tracy Long, Ronnie Dean Long, Denver Allen Dugger, Jr., Dustin L. Dugger, Gabriel S. Dugger, Travis Dugger, Matthew Dugger, Nickie Walters, Josh Dugger, Dallas Dugger, Tyler Adams, Jacob Wheeler, Hannah Wheeler, Jordan Dugger, Seth Dugger, Tymber Miller, Steven Mekael Dugger, Cody Dugger, and Elijah Dugger; 11 greatgrandchildren. A lifelong friend and neighbor, Hazel Cullop, Johnson City. Several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.
The home going celebration for Ruth Dugger will be held Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in the sanctuary of Maranatha Tabernacle, Buckeye Rd., Unicoi, with Pastor E.L Wheeler, and her sons, Rev. David Dugger and Rev. Larry Dugger officiating.
The family will receive friends Wednesday prior to the celebration at the church from 5 to 7:30 p.m.
Music will be under the direction of Hobart Bradshaw, Terry Austin, and Ruth's children and grandchildren.
The graveside service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in Washington County Memory Gardens with Dr. Eugene Penland officiating.
Active pallbearers will be grandsons. Those who wish to attend the graveside are asked to meet at either Appalachian Funeral Home, 800 E. Watauga Ave, Thursday at 10:30 a.m. or the cemetery at 10:50 a.m.
The family would like to offer a special thank you to the nursing staff of the 4200 wing of JCMCH for there wonderful care they showed during our Mother's illness, especially Casey (Casaundra) Dalton, Natasha St. Jean, Marie Carroll and Larry Leseur.
