Laura L. Jessick Johnston, 70, of Manistique, died Monday, Oct. 14, 2002, at her residence. She was born Nov 8, 1931, in Manistique, the daughter of the late Joseph and Esther (Sjoberg) Jessick and was a graduate of Manistique High School with the class of 1950.

On Nov. 16, 1950, the former Laura L. Jessick married Myron T. "Pike" Johnston in Manistique.

She was employed as a teacher's aide for 29 years for the Manistique Area Schools, retiring in 1994. She was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Manistique and the Bishop Baraga Circle.

Survivors include: her husband Myron "Pike" Johnston of Manistique; three daughters, Deborah (Joseph) Jackson of Virginia, Minn., Lynn Johnston of Paris, France and Patricia (Lawrence) Switaj of Shelby Township, Mich.; two grandsons, Christopher (Jodie) Jackson of Munising, Mich. and Matthew (Rebecca) Switaj of Chicago, Ill.; one great grandson, Lukas Oliver Switaj; three bothers, Donald (Louise) Jessick of Huntsville, Ala., John A. (Sandy) Jessick of Buckner, Mo. and William Jessick of Manistique; three half sisters, JoAnn (Donald) Kokesh of Manistique, Marsha (Charles) Lloyd of Jackson, Mich. and Molly (Doug) Ryan of Russellville, Ark.; one step sister Myra (Dave) Vandenheede of Marshall, Mich.; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 16, at the Messier-Broullire Funeral Home in Manistique. Parish Liturgical prayers were at 7 p.m.

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 17, at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Manistique with the Father Glenn Theoret officiating. Burial will follow at the Fairview Cemetery in Manistique.
