Joe "Niño" Q. Sanchez, 76, passed away in Mesa Monday, Sept. 10, 2001.

He was born in Superior Oct. 22, 1924, and was an Army Paratrooper during World War II and for many years thereafter.

Mr. Sanchez worked as a miner for Magma Copper Company. He served 40 years with the Little League, becoming "Superior Man of the Year" many times for his work with the League.

He is survived by his wife, Anna, as well as three sons and three daughters: Charlie and Margaret Higuera, Joseph and Barbara Sanchez and Michael and Martha Sanchez, all of Mesa; Soyla (Kiki) Peralta and Anna Sanchez, both of Superior; and Sylvia and Terry Taylor of Mesa. Two brothers also survive: Frank Sanchez of Phoenix and Victor Sanchez of Superior. Mr. Sanchez has 12 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

The Wake and Rosary service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church and the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, Sept. 14, at 9 a.m. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Superior.
