John enlisted in the Confederate Army Co B 39th Regiment AL Infantry, 10 April 1862 at Clayton, AL. He was captured and sent to Military Prison at Louisville, KY.
He married Catherine Butler on 23 September 1849. They were parents of James Wesley, Eli, Mary Ella, John B, Nancy, Charity Evelyn. While working at a cotton gin at Teague the boiler blew up and he died a few days later.
