Zella Mae Vandyke, age 93, Elkhorn City, Kentucky (formerly of Grundy, Va.) died Monday, February 23, 2009 at a Elkhorn City Nursing Home. Born May 14, 1915 in Buchanan County, she was the daughter of the late Muncey and Gertrude Davis Ratliff. She was a homemaker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Edd Vandyke; two brothers, Bittle and Ellis Ratliff; one sister Ora Ratliff; one nephew Jerry Ratliff and one niece Grace. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.Survivors: One son, Ellis Edward Vandyke of Columbus, Georgia; two grandsons, Scott Vandyke and wife Tracy of LaGrange, Georgia, Eddie Vandyke of Columbus, Georgia; seven great-grandchildren; three nieces, Mabel Mullins of Grundy, Virginia, Geneva Mullins of St. Augustine, Florida, Peggy Anderson of Simpsonville, South Carolina; six nephews, Wesley Ratliff of Grundy, Virginia, Randy Ratliff of Bland, Virginia, Harold Shortridge of Richlands, Virginia, Larry Ratliff of Vansant, Virginia Ronnie Ratliff of Jacksonville, Florida, Richard Ratliff of Cleveland, Tennessee; special friends, Johnny and Kathy Mitcheum of Grundy, Virginia. Funeral services for Zella Mae Vandyke will be held Wednesday, February 25 ,2009 at 2 p.m. at the Virginia Funeral Home Chapel at Grundy, Virginia with the Rev. Don Ashby and the Rev. Larry David Ratliff officiating with burial to follow in the Hibbitts Cemetery at Grundy, Virginia. Friends called after 6 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home where a song service was held at 7 p.m. Pallbearers will be family and friends. Virginia Funeral Home of Grundy is in charge of arrangements.
