He is best known for the films "House Calls" (1978), "The Main Event" (1979), "Private Benjamin" (1980), and "My Girl" (1991). Born in Chicago, Illinois, he was raised in Los Angeles and studied at the Art Center College of Design. After a career in photography, Zieff began directing television commercials during the 1960s. He made his feature film directing debut with the 1973 picture "Slither". Among his other big screen credits are "Hearts of the West" (1975), "Unfaithfully Yours" (1984), "The Dream Team" (1989) and "My Girl 2" (1994). He died of complications from Parkinson's disease.
