Carla Lee Mathews, 75, of Stevensville and previously of Melfa, Va., for 20 years, died Sept. 23 at University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore of complications from pulmonary disease.

Mrs. Mathews was born in East Liverpool, Ohio, on Jan. 24, 1932, and attended Anne Arundel Community College. She was the former social services director at Knollwood Manor nursing home in Millersville and had been a co-owner of Country Flowers and Country Treasures in Melfa.

Her interests included genealogy, sewing, knitting, crocheting, crafts and tatting.

In 1949 she married John Donald Mathews who died in April this year. She was the daughter of the late Carl O. and Mildred Sams Clark.

Surviving are one daughter, Mary Susan Hughes of Mount Airy; one son, John Donald Mathews Jr. of Glen Burnie; one sister, Beth Ann Swope of Mesa, Ariz.; one grandchild; and one great-grandchild.

No formal services are planned. Arrangements are by Hardesty Funeral Home.
